In 2016, I arrived in New Zealand as a student — with nothing but a suitcase, big dreams, and a lot of uncertainty.
Leaving the Philippines wasn’t easy. I left behind my family, my comfort zone, and everything familiar — hoping it would all be worth it.
Life as an international student was far from easy.
I studied during the day and worked part-time just to get by. There were nights filled with doubt, homesickness, and exhaustion.
At one point, things got really tough — I had no stable place to stay and ended up sleeping in my car for months.
It was one of the hardest times in my life.
But it was also the moment that changed me.
That experience taught me resilience, discipline, and how to keep going even when things felt impossible.
Step by step, things improved. I finished my studies, built my career, and eventually created a life in New Zealand.
Years later, all the sacrifices paid off — I became a New Zealand citizen.
And one of my proudest moments was being able to bring my family there and give them the opportunities I once dreamed of.
Today, I share this story for one reason:
